The Decade
In 2008, the video-loving staff at Vimeo started recognizing their favorites with a Staff Pick. Ten years and over 15,000 picks later, Vimeo Staff Picks had grown to be a badge of honor for filmmakers around the world. We wanted to celebrate that milestone with the kind of red carpet treatment that the best of the best internet videos deserve, but rarely get.
For SXSW, we teamed up with Preacher to create The Decade, a fully immersive theatre dedicated to 100 of the most iconic Vimeo Staff Picked films. Preacher knocked it out of the park with every design detail, all the way down to the menus and the (blue) carpet.
Shorts like Marcel the Shell, Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, and, yes, even the glorious Hi Stranger butt became living installations. Our team curated talks with filmmakers Daniels, Kirsten Lepore, and Danny DeVito. We danced with Dan Deacon and DJ Elijah Wood! We ate popcorn! All inspired by the Staff Picks that started it all.
